Original Outtakes
I’ve always had a special place in my heart for photography books. Big format ones, are my favourite. Crisp photographs printed on thick paper exudes inspiration and asks for awe for the photographer. I have quite a few; anything from The Folio Book of the 100 Greatest Photographs to The Polaroid Book, to books on Vogue, Danish and foreign photographers.
Today I found an article on The Daily Beast – Art Beast on a new publication of Helmut Newtons polaroids, currently exhibited in Berlin. The article goes:
Helmut Newton first garnered international fame in the ‘70s when his provocative, sexually charged photographs regularly appeared in French Vogue. Newton’s revolutionary influence only grew with time as he further developed his signature racy aesthetic, capturing his subjects in controversial scenarios and casting them in stark light. Exhibited this year at Berlin’s Museum für Fotografie, a rare collection of Newton’s Polaroids provides a never-before-seen glimpse into some of his most famous shoots. From women scantily clad in leather and fur to unabashed nudes framed in striking compositions, see the photographer’s original outtakes featured in a new exhibition catalog.”

This book is allowed to find it’s way to my soon-to-be filled bookcases. I wouldn’t mind a ticket to Berlin to see this exhibition either!
Monday Go see TANK

This weekend we’ve had S’ cousin for a visit – She lives in Copenhagen – we visit her whenever we can, we love her and her place – and it was the first time she’s come here, so it was bound to be a great weekend – and it was! On Saturday we walked downtown, as there was a few things going on around town. We spent most of our time in Mejlegade where the annual street party was happening, with concerts and whatnot.
On Mejlegade I visited the shop TANK – A newly opened artshop, full of artbooks and artwork by young and upcoming artists from both Denmark and outside of Denmark. I’d been wanting to go for a few days, but my exam had of course stopped me. But it was so worth it. All the works fit together somehow, and it’s an interesting mixture of photography, graphics, design, collages, and the prices are very reasonable – even for a student!
I highly recommend you to go check it out, if you’re in Aarhus – you can even get your coffee-fix there! I know I’ll be going back!

Ps. They as well have a website with updates and more information: TANKyou.dk
Tuesday: A Month of Unrequited Love
As other Danish reader might do, I follow Camille on Clamour for Glamour religiously (okay, everybody as religiously as I do, but I love her blog ;)). Recently she recommended a new music project by the Danish musician, Michael Møller (he’s the voice of Moi Caprice, if you know them).
This May he’s doing a project called “A Month of Unrequited Love”, where he’ll be releasing a new song every day for 31 days. And so far I can only recommend it; the songs are heartfelt and absolutely beautiful and inspiring.
On the day a song is released, you’re able to download it for free from the website, but after a few days, you’re only able to listen to it.
We’re on the 3rd song, so get going!

Wednesday Gagaloo
On my daily blog-trip I stumbled into the blog of Elizabeth Spiridakis; White Lightning. (cool blog btw)
Reading through the blog I noticed that she had an entire category, purely for the lovely Lady Gaga. Next I found a post that she did on Telephone (hit song by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé – If you live in a cave). I enjoyed this post immensely, I recommend it to you.
Saturday 200 portraits
Top: Jil Sander 1992, bottom: Rose 2000, both by Nick Knight
If you are familiar with SHOWstudio.com, you’re familiar with Nick Knight – or the other way around. As a fashion photographer he started SHOWstudio.com in 2000 as a fashion portal, taking fashion fascination just a bit further.
Knights visual aesthetics and productions whether photos or videos are fascinating, experimental and so beautiful.
As SHOWstudio celebrates its 30th anniversary Knight has photographed 200 portraits of “the most important people in fashion, music and culture today“. SHOWstudio will show video portraits every week, “documenting not only this shoot but a slice of twenty-first century culture“. These videos are really fascinating, sort of documenting modern life in a very personal, individual way, keeping it simple.
To see the videos that are out so far, go to: 200 portraits.
My favourites at the moment are Florence Welsh, Behati Prinsloo, S.C.U.M and Alana Zimmer. Hell, I dig all of them!
Friday Serene
These are my favourite days. I spent yesterday with tidying my office a bit, in the sun reading Annie Leibovitz at work (highly recommendable btw. Great stories behind her photographs, how she started out, how she thinks about photography) and ended the beautiful day with making great food for Boyfriend and me. Today I’m basically doing the same. And this weekend will hopefully bring sunny parties for me to attend.
Monday Morning

I’ve slept so much this weekend, I’m not sure what’s up with me. And I couldn’t get out of bed this morning. On mondays (ironically) I usually don’t have a problem getting up semi-early to get a good start on the week, but I snoozed for an hour! (I never snooze!)
To get things up and running I made very strong coffee – I’m drinking that while listening to personalised radio.
I can’t remember if I have recommended it before – I will do it (again?) none the less.
Since I lost my mp3-collection I’ve been using last.fm a lot. For those who doesn’t know it – Last.fm is (in their own words) “a music service that lets you discover new music you like, based on the music you already listen to.” You simply download the program, and every time you play music it keeps a record – the more you listen to, the more it knows about your taste in music, and then lets you listen to personlised radio (with artists you know and love) or a radio station with recommendations specifically for you. You can also just type in an artist, and the radio will make radio station with that artist only and music in the same genre.
It works so well for me, especially when I want to get to know new music. I love it!

Sunday Fine Day
CocoRosie are highly recommendable and perfect sunday music.
The concert on friday was great. We started off at a private party with almost only Icelandic people – which was somewhat of a hurdle at first – then went to Train. We ended up in way front being stomped on and pushed and hit. Loved it!
Yesterday I made a great discovery that I can’t talk about yet, but it’s great.
This is going to be a great sunday.
Monday Daily Tip
I stumbled across this nifty webzine, check it out!
